How to Remember the Lyrics and Chords to Any Song You Want to Play

Can you remember the words and chords to all those songs you love to play?

Me neither.

That is why I love to make songsheets, and keep them in a 3-ring binder.

My collection goes with me and my guitar everywhere, and we always have plenty of music right at our fingertips.

Here’s how you can do it too! Watch the video now.

  1. I used to be able to do this as well. Played in bands, duet, solo, hundreds of songs and their lyrics all in my head. Where did it all go? Can I put a bid in for a tutorial on how to remember song lyrics for the over 50s?

  2. Lisa- Great tips! Nice and simple song sheets. I have wanted to do this for years and your timely example has been the catalyst to push me over the edge. I have so many notes on receipts, napkins and scrap paper with lyrics, song notes, chords, and a week later I’m scratching my head! I will try and make the time to start chipping away at this archive of notes and get it all digitized and printed out in a binder! Keep your fingers crossed and thanks for a little inspiration!

    Take care,

    Mike

  3. Hi, thanks for sharing the idea, but I have no sound!!!

  4. ignore my previous comment about no sound, somehow my headphones were turned to zero!!!
    Thanks for sharing x

  5. Aha! I was just about to write back and suggest it might be something like that.
Glad you got it worked out!

  6. Well, you and I are in the same camp there, my friend.
I’d be completely lost without my binder full of song sheets!

  7. I’m rooting for you, Mike!
    It’s well worth the effort.
You will be SO glad when you have your collection of songs all in one place.

  8. Thanks for the video really good tips.

  9. I almost never leave remarks, but i did some searching and wound up here How to
Remember the Lyrics and Chords to Any Song You Want to Play | Getting Started
With Guitar. And I actually do have a couple of questions for you
if you do not mind. Could it be just me or does it give the impression
like some of the comments appear like left by brain dead visitors?
:-P And, if you are writing at other sites, I would like to follow anything new you have
to post. Could you make a list of the complete urls of your community
sites like your linkedin profile, Facebook page or twitter feed?

  10. Lisa, I learn a lot from you, it’s amazing, as simple as that! You wake me up. Thank you very much. I would like to ask a favor from you next time please include the beautiful gospel song “You Raise Me Up” with chords and tablature.

    Warm regards,

    Manny

  11. Great – just put ‘You Raise Me Up’ on the wishlist. I’ll be doing a Christian/Gospel course later this year, and am open to requests and suggestions. The caveat: the songs have to be in the Public Domain (not under copyright).
    Enjoy Amazing Grace, Manny!
    Best wishes, Lisa
